5.1.4

Expanded Classic Surround

Hybrid Overhead

A 5.1.4 (Hybrid Atmos-Enabled) system features five main speakers—front left, front right, center, and two rear surrounds—along with a subwoofer and four height channels. In this configuration, the height effects are produced using a combination of in-ceiling speakers and Atmos-enabled front speakers, offering both direct overhead sound and reflected height cues.

This hybrid layout is designed for rooms where ceiling installation is partially possible or preferred in combination with Atmos-capable front speakers, making it ideal for users seeking to balance precision, performance, and installation flexibility.

Speaker Definitions

Front | Placed to the left and right of your screen or TV. They handle most of the music, sound effects, and action.

Center | Placed in line with your screen or TV, typically directly below. It is dedicated to voices and dialogue.

Surround | Placed to the sides or behind you. They create the immersive feeling of sound moving around the room.

Rear Surround | Placed directly behind you.  Typically used in larger or more advanced setups for deeper surround effects.

Overhead (Height) | Placed in or near the ceiling. They add a sense o fheight to the sound--like a plane overhead.

Subwoofer | Large, floor or in-wall mounted speaker that produces deep bass, like explosions or rumbling. They are felt as much as heard.

Atmos | Specially designed to project sound both forward and upward. Bouncing sound off the ceiling to allow sound to move in all directions around you.
