4.1

Surround

A 4.1 system includes four speakers—two positioned at the front (left and right) and two at the rear (left and right)—along with a subwoofer for low-frequency effects. This configuration creates a wraparound sound field, allowing audio to move from front to back with improved spatial realism compared to front-only layouts.

It’s an ideal format for listeners seeking a more immersive surround experience without incorporating a center or overhead channel. It works well in rooms where full 5.1 placement may be impractical but enhanced directionality is still desired.

Speaker Definitions

Front | Placed to the left and right of your screen or TV. They handle most of the music, sound effects, and action.

Center | Placed in line with your screen or TV, typically directly below. It is dedicated to voices and dialogue.

Surround | Placed to the sides or behind you. They create the immersive feeling of sound moving around the room.

Rear Surround | Placed directly behind you.  Typically used in larger or more advanced setups for deeper surround effects.

Overhead (Height) | Placed in or near the ceiling. They add a sense o fheight to the sound--like a plane overhead.

Subwoofer | Large, floor or in-wall mounted speaker that produces deep bass, like explosions or rumbling. They are felt as much as heard.

Atmos | Specially designed to project sound both forward and upward. Bouncing sound off the ceiling to allow sound to move in all directions around you.
