3.1.2

Advanced Stereo

Overhead

A 3.1.2 system includes three front speakers—left, center, and right—a subwoofer, and two overhead or Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers. The height speakers expand the soundstage vertically, allowing effects like rainfall, aircraft, or ambient sound to appear from above the listener.

This configuration is ideal for users seeking clear dialogue and cinematic depth in a living room or media space, while also gaining the immersive benefits of overhead sound without adding rear surrounds.

Speaker Definitions

Front | Placed to the left and right of your screen or TV. They handle most of the music, sound effects, and action.

Center | Placed in line with your screen or TV, typically directly below. It is dedicated to voices and dialogue.

Surround | Placed to the sides or behind you. They create the immersive feeling of sound moving around the room.

Rear Surround | Placed directly behind you.  Typically used in larger or more advanced setups for deeper surround effects.

Overhead (Height) | Placed in or near the ceiling. They add a sense o fheight to the sound--like a plane overhead.

Subwoofer | Large, floor or in-wall mounted speaker that produces deep bass, like explosions or rumbling. They are felt as much as heard.

Atmos | Specially designed to project sound both forward and upward. Bouncing sound off the ceiling to allow sound to move in all directions around you.
